Greetings everyone-

I am a MBA/JD that works in consulting offshore with the oil and gas industry. I commute from South Carolina, 3weeks on 3 off. I spend about 5-6 days a month in New Orleans, and fly offshore from Terrebonne Parish.

My wife is an attorney who lives and works in South Carolina. We have been trying to find somewhere to live that can accomodate both of our careers while also staying in the South (her preference) as close to home as possible. It has been a challenge. She has a career as an attorney in SC but I need a more major market.

We have both really fallen for New Orleans. We like that it reminds us of Charleston, where we have both lived, but also completely has its own thing going on and is more of a real place than Charleston which is becoming more and more like a Disney version of itself. We also like that New Orleans is a major city, with a decent sized economy (remember, we are coming from broke and small South Carolina).

My question is, what is the market like here for a MBA like myself with some oil and gas experience and some experience as an in house counsel with a small company? I have read that Fortune has rated New Orleans pretty well in recent years for entrprenuership and things have improved (relatively). I also know that most of the oil and gas work for white collar stuff is based in Houston, but there is some here.

Anyone a MBA or know of folks that are? What industries are solid/growing here?

Any input would be welcome.

Better than it's ever been, I'd say. That doesn't promise a job, but things are looking up. Plenty of people are moving here from other parts of the state and country for jobs, so that says something.
