Same here. I smoked weed every day no problem... finding somebody to buy a pack of cigarettes when I was 15 was harder.

Just because a city has a liberal reputation means little, when it comes to potential. And New Orleans is a tourist city, so the decision may be left up to those running the tourist trade, just like Las Vegas, where it'll be a hot day in hell, when the casino moguls here, who control everything, allow legalized marijuana!

Tourist cities can be tricky! We still allow smoking in the casino hotels in Las Vegas, hip-hip-hooray say the smokers who visit, and those who can't stand the smell of smoke, they stay away from this city! So we lose some, gain some! And when the day comes, more stay away because the smoke issue, then there goes the smoking in the casino's!

It depends too on the caliber of tourists who come to New Orleans. Any Las Vegas liberalness went out the window when Las Vegas began catering to families/children. A number of tourists who come to New Orleans may be greatly offended, not only smelling it occasionally, but seeing stoned out individuals, staring into space, on park benches, or wherever!

"I'm not going back to New Orleans. I just don't want my kids seeing that or questioning me about it!"

You just lost a tourist, yet, you may have gained another to cancel out the rejector. Hard one to measure!

So don't be too surprised if Birmingham beats New Orleans to it!

New Orleans already has a reputation of passed out stupidity drunkedness. Bourbon Street anyone? And seeing a bunch of stoned out of their mind zombies walking around? I have noticed most of the sober population doesn't even notice when someone is high... just that they act weird. And as we ALL know, NOLA is known for it's weird people, too.

i think legalizing weed is the smartest way to go. The city could potentially cut down on crime (at least from this drug) and if the state or local government got to tax it they could use that money to further improve the city. It's a dying war against weed and the government doesn't have that kind of money to keep spending...

and if they legalize weed I do not think you will see a bunch of stoned people out of their minds sitting on park benches staring into space. that sounds more like a dope fiend or a harder drug. People who smoke tend to be more talkative and smoke with friends. It will be hard for some to tell the difference between stoned and drunk people (especially children). Then again, I wouldn't take my children to Bourbon street after dark anyways! Stay away from the "hot" spots and you won't have to worry about your children being exposed.

Smoking weed doesn't make you stare off into space. With a similar law as Colorado, it could be illegal to use in public places, and illegal to possess over an ounce or other set amount. They could even make it illegal to be in the view of the public while in public, such as you can't just hold a bag in your hand walking down the street.

I do think this would bring much more tourism to the city, for others it might ruin the experience of the city, especially if they have a family. I don't necessarily think it would ruin a thing, although we wouldn't have this problem if the federal government would cease prohibition of marijuana.

The more crooked the politics, the less likely it'll be legalized unfortunately.

New Orleans isn't really a family friendly destination anyways (esp around Bourbon Street) so I don't see how legalizing marijuana in the city would hurt tourism.
