I was looking for a home that is liveable but not necessarily "pretty". liveable meaning: electricity and water. I don't think I'd need heat in NOLA, huh?

I can fix stuff up as well. Curious what cities are in the northshore? I looked at Trulia and could not find any listed home for a northshore. Is that Slidell? Metairie? Kenner?

Little Woods is in New Orleans East, a couple years ago some homes were in bad shape. Not sure how it is now, but $30k is sign for a home in terrible condition to me. If you want to look for a cheaper home outside of the city in a safe area, I would go to the northshore.

Well, the heat was certainly appreciated when it was in the mid-20s, low 30s here this winter in a 100 year old house with minimal insulation.

Yes you will need heat. It gets surprisingly cold and the humidity makes the air colder. We had plenty of days below 40 this past winter, a couple days ago the low was 35.

The northshore is above Lake Pontchartrain. Hammond, Covington, Mandeville, and Slidell.
