Hi all. We are driving through New Orleans this summer on our way to the beach. We thought we would stop by and stay a night. We have two kids, 7 and 4. We plan to do the Aquarium, Jackson Square, French Market during the day. I don't plan to drag the kiddoos out during the evening hours except for an early bird dinner.

Now, can someone recommend some great restaurants for us in these areas? They would need to be relatively kid friendly, but totally New Orleans in flavor. My kids love shrimp so no problem there. We want great food and a unique place to eat. Also, if you know of any great things for kids to do, throw the ideas my way.

Thanks!

Default New Orleans in a Day

Do not eat downtown, try the Garden District and Uptown. dozens of places where you wont be in a tourist trap= Avoid Commanders.

If you have two children you don't have too many options downtown. So, yes, I agree with alsidw that downtown might not be your best choice. You can take the street car uptown or to the garden district (although check street car times)! Also, don't forget to go to Cafe Du Monde the morning you leave, your kids will love it!

It's not a restaurant, but you can check out Verti Marte on the corner of Governor Nicholls and Royal in the French Quarter if you're looking for a quick bite to go and don't wanna leave the Quarter. They have a HUGE selection of NOLA style food and their seafood is very fresh.

How about killing three birds with one stone - a street car ride, a look-see at the Garden District and a good feed for everyone (kid friendly too). Take the street car from the Quarter to Riverbend and eat at O'Henry's. Great burgers and crawfish balls (and plenty of other choices), reasonable prices, and fun for the kids.

The Gumbo Shop is a great place to eat local speacialties and not break the bank. I always bring visitors there when people come in town.
