i'll be down there for 2 1/2 weeks as a single gentleman. Any good places i should checkout within the nightlife?

I'm into packed house dancing with the availability of lounging. i like a good party but not a big partier if you know what i mean.

i should probably ask this in the New Orleans area but i feel this area will give me some good info

thanks

I loved New Orleans....so vibrant! Do anything on Bourbon St. Check out lots of the eateries...Wonderful Southern food. Jackson Square....awesome, entertaining street vendors, palm readers, artists...etc. The Aquarium was wonderful....I was there way before Katrina....So, no clue what is left outside the Quarter. You park in the downtown area, near the French Quarter and everything is w/in walking distance. Be careful, they make their drinks very strong! But, be cautious at night...It is like a big city...plenty of crime. Visit a plantation, visit Charleston St. ride a street car. And, yes, move this to the NO forum....You'll get more up to date info.

Yup I've been there.

Go to Bourbon Street. Check out The Beach.

Go to Frenchman Street, not Bourbon. Read earlier posts. Bourbon is just for tourists to get plastered and do disgusting things that they wouldn't dare do at home. My opinion and most locals opinion.

Agreed. Go to Bourbon for five minutes so you can get the idea. The only people who like it are 20 year old college kids who are happy they aren't getting carded and tourists from neighboring states who need an excuse to act like idiots. Not where you are going to be happy unless you fit into one of those categories. Bourbon acts as a safety valve for the locals-- the morons stay mostly in that area and people who live there don't have to be unduly distrubed by their antics.

New Orleans is know n for jazz- -you might have a rough time finding house music and an urban lounge type atmosphere. Its not like Chicago. Go to the WWOZ website (its a local radio station) and stream some of the music to get an idea of what you will hear while you are here. If you like it, head to Frenchmen and wander in and out of the venues.

98% of vendors card on Bourbon. Not sure where you get that idea from. Coming from someone who used to frequent the Quarter as an underage drinker fairly recently.

Some of these might be what you're looking for...but yes, New Orleans is more known for live music performances - especially jazz - than DJ'd electronica. (Unless perhaps you can find a locals' spot where hip-hop/bounce music is being played.)

That has not been my experience. Was there with a few of the crew for the film I was working on last month-- they wanted to go to Bourbon despite my discouragement. Two of them were 20, the rest of us were older. No one carded anywhere.

Yes, but at bars around the city outside of the French Quarter it's very common for 16 year olds to be out drinking with no problem. Although transplant bartenders from more puritan backgrounds have started to change that.
