Talking to my Mom about our trip we're planning in August. I was thinking getting there later in the day on a Monday and leaving early on Saturday, so 5 days/5 nights. She said "I've heard people say you don't want to spend more than 3 days max in NOLA"???

Well, if that's what she heard, then it must be true.

If you enjoy music, food & drinks, then 5 days will go by in a blink.

If all you are doing is partying and drinking, 3 days might be enough. If you are there to really enjoy the city and take in all that NOLA has to offer 5 days will not cover it. You need one entire day at the WWII museum.

I agree with the posters above. If you just want to party, go to the french quarter, listen to some music, drink and eat some great food then a three day trip is enough. If you want to see more of what the city and region have to offer, I think five days is about right.

There are several activities that require a big chunk of time: WWII museum, NO Museum of Art, taking a cooking class, touring one of the cemeteries, going to the zoo, aquarium, and insectarium, taking a swamp tour, touring a nearby plantation, taking the ferry to Algiers, etc. If a few of those appeal to you, then take a couple of extra days.

There is SO much to do in New Orleans. Don't listen to these "people" and enjoy your trip for however long you want!

I might have to spent a bit more than just 3 days on my trip next year. I'll have to check a whole lot more...bus route, good neighborhoods, prices, wages...etc, as I'm planning on moving here.

4-5 days is perfect if you are looking to take in all the city has to offer without feeling rushed.
