St. Charles Ave crosses with Jackson Ave? The Hotel Indigo. Looks like it borders the Garden District. I was shooting for the CBD near Magazine St liking what I'd heard about that area, but this one has such a good deal that I think I might go for it! One thing though... I scoped out bestparking.com and there are no parking facilities anywhere near this area?

That's a good location. You'll be right on the St. Charles streetcar line and also have the ability to walk over to Magazine St. There is a good cluster of businesses on the downtown side of Jackson. Magazine has a good bus line that can get you Up/Downtown MUCH faster than the tourist laden streetcar on St. Charles. You can valet park at the hotel, or just find a spot on the street. You should not have a problem finding a spot within a block or two.

Keep in mind that the neighborhood goes downhill fast on the Lake/North side of St. Charles right there. The hotel is in a good spot, but don't go wandering around the blocks behind it. Carondelet is okay, but Baronne and Dryades start to get bad around Jackson. There's really nothing to see over there anyway. If you want to park on the street. I would leave my car on the river side of St. Charles in the Garden District proper.

Second for rburnett's comments. Will add that walking tours of the Garden District pass through that area - on the south side of St. Charles. My daughter lives within two blocks of the Hotel Indigo on the south of St. Charles, a block from Jackson. There's never any trouble with parking on the street and we've almost always been able to get right in front of the house. In spite of the streetcar, it's a very quiet few blocks west of Jackson. Double ditto for rburnett on the north of St. Charles. Don't do it.

Thanks guys. All good info. I was about to pay in advance on the hotel deal that includes parking for $20 a day but am now second-guessing it if parking is that readily available nearby. I worried because I've read so much about cars being broken into etc. Is street parking free or metered?

If not metered, it will probably have a time limit...a lot of Uptown has two-hour residential zones.

Well, nonetheless. I found the Hotel Indigo deal on Travelzoo if anyone else is interested. It ends sometime tonight though. I'll be paying $418 for four nights including breakfast, valet parking, internet, and $40 credit to the hotel bar/restaurant. I don't think I can do any better than that!

Just don't leave anything in your car. And I mean anything.
