My husband has never wanted to take our family over to City Park. He says it is not in a very good area. Is this true? Did it used to be true? Isn't there a Cafe du Monde over in that area? We will be in Metairie next weekend for only two days, and I want my son who is 10 to get to Cafe du Monde. He does not remember the last time we went (too young) Should we go down to the French Quarter to get the true experience?

Dont know where he got his info from, but city park is a very nice area. Its very scenic , there's a museum there , a long bayou for water activities, and less than a mile away from the northen border of the park is lake pontchartrain , the houses are very nice and kept up and crime is very low and even scarce in some parts

Nowhere near city park is even remotely sketchy. I don't know where he's getting that information, but every part of the park borders a nice neighborhood.

Cafe du Monde is in the French Quarter. Morning Call is in City Park. Both are open 24/7 and both serve the same basic thing. Those beignets taste just as good in City Park as they do in the quarter. As you can imagine, Cafe du Monde is much more crowded and popular with a lot of tourists due to the location.

If you just want beignets, head to Morning Call. If you want to spend some time in the Quarter anyway, then try Cafe du Monde.

The neighborhood around City Park is lovely, some gorgeous houses. We used to walk around there as much as City Park itself. You can get a streetcar from Canal St if you're in the FQ. We used to hire bikes from a place on Frenchmen St and ride there and back. Enjoy!
