I know we have a few hip-hop heads in the New Orleans forums...or at least I hope so. So I'm curious. IYO, who are the best rappers you know of from New Orleans? Who are the worst? Feel free to include producers as well.

Best: (in preferential order)

-Jay Electronica
-Mystikal
-Juvenile
-Kidd Kidd
-DJ Khaled (producer)
-Curren$y
-HA Double (street battler)
-4kus (street battler)
-Mid City AB
-Big Freedia
-StreetFamm Rell

Worst:
-Silkk the Shocker [THE WORST]
-Lil Romeo
-Birdman
-Choppa
-Lil Wayne since 2008

For a long time Mystikal's Unpredictable was my favorite rap album... I just can't help thinking about what he did to his hairdresser when I listen to it now.

Like Father Like Son is a great album. Would have been even better without Birdman, but that's the "Like Father" part.

I liked the Carter III and wish I still had the copy with "Playing with Fire" on it. I was also obsessed with Lilweezyana for a while.

You're going to get some flack for not including Soulja Slim.

As far as Best goes Tim Smooth and Mac should be at or near the top of that list ESPECIALLY MAC. They were very talented lyrically. None of those guys on that list can touch them LYRICALLY expect Jay Electronica. However, as a matter of on your BEST list take everyone off except Jay Electronica,Juve, Mystikal and Currensy the other are GARGAGE. Oh and altough I'm not a BIG Lil Wayne fan he SHOULD be on the list.

Can't say that I've heard of Tim Smooth and Mac, but I'm checking for them now. And regarding my "Best" list; really? Kidd Kidd holds his own in the booth, no question. And the others, I'm not sure if you've heard of. Not doubting your New Orleans hip-hop knowledge, but those dudes are pretty far underground.

Oh and Wayne hasn't been a dope rapper in several years. As a matter of fact, the last Wayne track that I feel he snapped on was "Gossip". Since then he's been trolling his fans with struggle bars.

Best (no order):
Wayne (Carter II and before, some of that mixtape crap was ok, CIII, hate it)
BG when he was on dope
Currensy
Jay Electronica
Juvenile
Soulja Slim (#1)
Mystikal
Master P (Mr. ICE CREAM MAAAAN!)
Mannie Fresh

Worst:
Silk, sucks
Lil Wayne
DJ Khaled
Those random dudes downtown who hand out CD's and claim to have a track from Wayne, cuz his cousin used to live in Holly Grove, and he knows Wayne like that.

DJ Khaled doesn't suck. HE THE BEST!
I think its hilarious that now everyone can admit how bad Silkk the Shocker was, but during the 90's New Orleanians would fight you for clowning Silkk or any other horrible rapping from New Orleans...which No Limit had their fair share of.

I'm curious, why is Soulja Slim your #1???

I grew up in the 90's when NOLA hip hop was just starting to BLOSSOM LOCALLY, so I'm probably a lil bit older that you so you probably don't remember the PIONEERS and artist with REAL LYRICAL talent. That's cool though maybe you can research and maybe I can research some of the new artist with REAL LYRICAL talent now in the city. By the way I am a life long HIP HOP FAN not just NOLA HIP HOP. Fell in love with HIP HOP as a little kid: RUN DMC, LL, Beastie Boy, Public Enemey, Rakim, NWA etc.....

I don't remember ever listening to Silk. P had some terrible songs too. I was gonna put him on my worst list too. lol

I really like Slim and his music. He gave back and was real. Soulja Slim is probably #1 to anyone from this area growing up in the 90s.

Would you say that it might have been more about his authenticity to the city? I'm asking because I have never been a Soulja Slim fan. Even now when I listen to his old music I wonder what the appeal was.
