I will be relocating next year for grad school(medical related). The city of New Orleans is an option. Can you tell me about the young professional scene(23-30)? I will be 23 at that time. I am really looking for somewhere with good entertainment and a decent young professional scene.

Do you think the east coast would be better? I am from the Dallas area if that helps. I want a city with a different/unique vibe. I am hoping for something different from Houston or Dallas. When I mention New Orleans to some people they tell me one word, "ghetto". I have also heard some nice things about NO. I think every city has it's ghetto parts though. I do plan to visit soon. An area with a southern/city feel would be ideal through. Any advice or suggestions? Thanks.

You'd like Uptown near the universities. What school will you be attending?

There is a decent young professional scene that includes all ethnic backgrounds. Uptown and the Warehouse District are the best neighborhoods for that kind of crowd. Check out the Young Leadership Council of New Orleans: Young Leadership Council | New Orleans, LA | Leave your mark.. They have a lot of social events and volunteer opportunities.
