Hey everybody. I just got an offer to intern in New Orleans over the summer in a practice area I am very interested in. The job is in Mid City. I just have a few questions.

Basically, I am looking for living arrangements. Living in Mid City would be ideal. I will not likely have a car by then so I would like to live near transportation. I would like to keep my rent at $850 Max. Living alone is desirable but I am not at all opposed to having roommates. I would also like to live in a neighborhood that is relatively safe and has access to bars, restaurants, and a good nightlife scene.
I have been looking up places online, but basically everything seems to be focused around Mardi Gras right now, so I am having trouble finding what I want.

Do you think Mid City fits the description of what I am looking for? If there are any other nearby neighborhoods with access to public transportation that you would recommend feel free to let me know.

The internship is from the end of May to mid August so I am trying to start my search now. I'm really excited for the opportunity and any insight you have to offer would be great. Thank you!

I live in Mid-City. There are plenty of neighborhood bars and restaurants. There are also banks, 3 grocery stores (incl. Whole Foods) and there's a Costco on Carrollton. Buses run down Broad, Carrollton, and Tulane, and there is a streetcar on Canal, which would give you easy access to the French Quarter. You should be able to find a 1br for $850. The area generally gets safer the closer you get to City Park Ave.

You should be able to find a place in Mid-City for your price range. As you said, it would be an ideal area since you're working there. It's easy to get around with or without a car. Just about everything you need is less than 2 miles away.

Thanks these links have been really useful. I have heard some areas can be rough around the edges in Mid City. I am no puritan or boy scout. But I would like to feel relatively safe walking around at night.
