My husband and I (27 and 29) decided to take a drive over to NOLA from FL soon, and figured what better time than during Mardi Gras?! I'm not looking for the wildest place in town, we're not college kids on spring break or anything, but would like to stay somewhere that would be close enough to walk from some restaurants and parades after having a couple drinks. Of course we're on a budget so nothing too fancy! I'm interested in doing a haunted tour, as well as visiting Oak Alley Plantation! Any advice on where to stay or any other activities you can recommend would be appreciated! TIA

Hotel Rooms can be hard to come by this close to Mardi Gras. The good ones on the parade route uptown are probably sold out as are the ones in the French Quarter.

You may be able to find one in the CBD/Warehouse Dist. From there, you can walk to various bars/restaurants as well as the end of the parade route. Also, the Quarter is within walking distance if you want to check that out.

If you can't find a place in the city, then look in Metairie and plan on driving into New Orleans (~20min). I would suggest you (at least one day) park Uptown and do some exploring on foot. A good place to park and catch the parades is near St. Charles and Napolean. Magazine is a few blocks away from the parade route and has tons of
bars/shops/restaurants. Avoid the north/lake side of St. Charles between Amelia and Jackson Ave.

We have done the http://www.hauntedhistorytours.com/ on two different Halloweens. Each tour guide gives it a different spin and may take you to a few different places. Our last guide was very good but his stories after the tour (we walked with him for a few blocks) were even better.

We booked out rooms last Summer. Doubt you'll get anything desirable at this point. You may be doing a lot of walking to parade routes and French Quarter. Possible cold weather too, so pack accordingly.
Bring lots of money!

We just booked a room for Wed 26th and Thurs 27th at La Quinta in the French Quarter. It was half the price to stay during the week rather than the weekend. Very reasonable, under $100 a night to be in walking distance of the quarter! Looks like there's still parades going on those days too! Thanks for all the input! Sure hope it's not too cold, but will pack some sweaters just in case!
