Hey there,

So my friend and I decided to do a spontaneous, last minute trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. I'm aware that everything is probably booked up as far as hotels go but are there any alternatives? I'd suggest couch surfing but I want to obviously keep this a safe trip.

My husband and I also planned a last minute trip, a few days ago we were able to book a room at La Quinta French Quarter. Reviews all state it is within walking distance to the quarter, and the rates were very reasonable. Good Luck, happy Mardi Gras!

I just booked a last-minute trip too! Fortunately I have a place to stay with a friend.

Check out hostels in the area: New Orleans hostels

You can use the money you'd save staying at a hostel to take taxis. Be prepared to do quite a lot of walking too.

Might keep checking hotels for cancellations- closer or in the Quarter the better.

I saved a few bucks being a short walk away but it felt sketchy after leaving Bourbon.

Good luck!

I think it will. A few months ago, I looked into airfare to NOLA for Mardi Gras, and it was a few hundred more than it is currently to fly there from New York. I bet this also translates into more hotel rooms being available as the trend seems to be that if it costs more, that's because there's more demand, and since the price went down, maybe the demand isn't as much as predicted? Just a hunch!

There's a guest house (hostel) on Magazine Street. They have individual rooms in addition to bunk rooms.

Default Last minute trip to Mardi Gras

Tip: Extend your hotel range for lower rates and get a rental car. Then park at Harrah's and receive free parking after using their Total Rewards card for only thirty minutes. Play penny slots... sometime you will pay nothing or at worse pay a dollar or two. Btw, I recently stayed at Holiday Inn East. Good luck!

I thought you had to play for an hour each day to get free parking?
