No they're not. One statement says New Orleans isn't a random crime city while your next statement says it is. What's consistent about that?

Folks, please keep discussing things rather than arguing about them...big difference.

All persons who feel the need to hurl insults rather than debate, please take a hard left and leave the room. And watch the insulting terms regarding intelligence levels as well. Some of us are not amused.

When did I ever say New Orleans is a random crime city? Quote it. I'll be waiting.

When I referenced NO a month ago, I was doing so in comparison to Detroit, Newark, and other high murder cities, which have a lot of random crime and very few safe areas. In comparison to THOSE cities, NO has safe areas where there really isn't random crimes. But NO's bad areas - which are really bad and take up a large chunk of the city's geographic area - DO have have random crime.

Today I compared NO to low murder cities like Minneapolis and York to show how ridiculous the list is. If you were to drop a person on a random block in those cities it would feel like Disneyland as compared to a random block in NO because NO has a lot more really bad areas, but the safe areas in NO are fine even though they're smaller.

Ok...

...whereas before you said that New Orleans isn't a "random crime city". Everyone else seems to grasp the inconsistencies in your statements except you. How are you so confused?

Moving on...

Right. We still have a ways to go regarding the gang violence problem, which as we know is the main contributor to the murder rate here. Hopefully with improving education and job creation, these individuals will transition out of that lifestyle.

Is gang violence that big of a problem? New Orleans has never really been that big of a "gang city", though maybe I'm thinking more of the stereotypical gangs and their practices.

Also with the rest of this debate that has taken up the last few pages of this thread, I think I'm going to trust that websites crime list (and the government sites crime statistics) more than a random poster's view points and theories.

"Gangs" in New Orleans are mostly friends or family that grew up together and happen to make "music" or commit crimes.
Today this might dictate what a gang is, but they used to have structure and a bit of morality (yeah I know but many had rules against harming women and children) at least.

That's similar to my understanding of what gangs are like in New Orleans. It's one of the things that some people would use to explain the high murder rate. It's every man for himself instead of people belonging to gangs. It seems there is a growing sense of a gang presence but its like you said where its mostly people that grew up around each other and for example the gang is named after the intersection they grew up at/live at. It's very loosely organized. It's nothing like the Bloods and Crips or whatever.

Whether its "bloods", "crips", a street name, or a family...its still a gang. Murders here rarely occur between random people. We all know that.
