Hi everyone! I am currently investigating a potential job opportunity in New Orleans. I have not received an offer and will not move without one, but if the offer comes I will have to make some quick decisions, so I figure I might as well do some research upfront!

Some background: I am an Indiana native, I've lived in several different northern states, and I have lived in Denver, CO for a few years now. This potential job could be a great move career-wise, but of course I need to consider the ramifications of starting over in a new city once again. I have visited New Orleans several times, and each time I stayed with a friend who lives there, so I have gotten to see some touristy and non-touristy parts of the city. I fell in love with New Orleans within 24 hours of my plane landing on that very first visit, but I know that it is much easier to love a place when you are just a visitor. (For example, in college I spent a summer in Chicagoland and loved it then, but it was a different story when I lived there full-time because the cold winters, the traffic, and the fast pace really wore me down.)

I know that Denver and New Orleans have plenty of differences when it comes to culture, climate, geography, etc., so those are things I am taking into consideration. As for housing, my ideal place would be a 1 BR apartment with some standard modern conveniences (A/C, dishwasher, off-street parking, cable/internet ready, maybe even W/D in unit), preferably in a relatively safe and walkable area of the city proper, for less than $1000/mo. (Those amenities are surprisingly hard to find in central Denver for that price.) Any suggestions on neighborhoods and/or complexes are very welcome! I am a single gay male in my mid-30s and I can make friends with just about anyone, but it would also be helpful to know where to find some people my demographic for friendship and potential dating.

Thanks in advance!!

Obviously weather wise its an extreme opposite. Denver is dry and has like 6-7 months of cold and we are VERY humid and have about 7-9 month long summer heat. I personally prefer Denver weather wise and crime wise among other things, (am considering moving there.) But if you knew you loved it here right off the plane, then you actually may. I think people get butterflies in the stomach when they are in the right place. I suggest hunting for an apartment on nola.com to get an idea of costs.

Hi! Thanks for the reply! I did not get the job, so it looks like I'm staying put for awhile. Denver is not perfect but I do enjoy living here. If you are considering a move here, it is definitely worth checking out!
