Have things changed as far as safety? Specifically walking from St Anthony St (1400 block) to Frenchman/French Quarter? Where is the closest streetcar and bus?

Then, NO, not safe. Maybe if you carry, legally, and even then you'd better check with a lawyer to see what the laws are on defending yourself.

Metairie, Old Metairie, Old Jefferson -- all of which are very overpriced either for rent or buying -- but that relative safety is mart of why they're so highly priced.

I speak the truth as I see it. And I'm not alone. Here, well, a LOT of the natives are blinded by that mantra about "the food and the music." Some of them may continue to be blinded even after they're shot for $27 in their wallets. Or after they go up in a building which was built by substandard labor and "inspected" by corrupt officials, and which proceeds to fall down with them in it.

(Luckily very few people were hurt by the collapse of the Hard Rock Hotel-to-be this weekend. But we're seeing more and more of this sort of thing in America, and "music and food" will not exempt NO from that.)

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you.

You just seem super vigilant lately with the "truth"
