Hi Everyone,

I tried searching the forum but did not see anything relating specifically to my question. I'm looking for information on the Seventh Ward neighborhood. We're potentially moving to the area from New England.

What is the community like? Is the Seventh Ward a relatively safe place to live? The realtor is saying that it's a great, up-and-coming area...but realtors will generally tell you anything to close a deal.

Any info or advice is appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi Sconley,
Thank you for your reply! Do you know which are areas are good and which are not? It seemed like everything we were shown was on or right near Frenchmen Street, near the 10. Not sure if that helps. Thanks again!

I would avoid the Seventh Ward, especially Frenchman near I-10 and especially for a newcomer. None of the Seventh Ward is really seen as desirable, though some of the outer areas are not as bad/are improving (but still not good).

The Seventh Ward is basically everything between Esplanade/Wisner and Elysian Fields.

The lake/north side of I-610 is the safer area (especially between Mirabeau and the lake). Around the Fairgrounds isn't bad either. Everything else though...

I would not recommend that area for a newcomer unless there was severe budget limitations. If you must, then try to stick to the upper Marigny or close to N Broad St. from Esplanade out to Florida Ave.

I think the original poster might just mean this area (or at least that is what I was referring to in my above post). The Seventh Ward neighborhood, not the whole actual ward. https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Seven...Louisiana&z=14

Columbia park (old st. Bernard project) is a new apartment complex that has transformed what used to be a terrible part of the 7th ward into what is now a desirable place to live. Its on St. Bernard ave next to the I 610 which isn't that far from city park. Start your search there for vacancies.....hurry though, they go fast

Is St. Bernard driveable now? It was under construction recently.

From I-10 to past Columbia park to Mirabeau st., the street is complete, not sure when the next phase of construction going towards the lake will start....street is pretty bad to drive on past there...but the houses are nice
