Lived in NOLA from 2007 to 2013 and after being away for 1 year, I will be moving back in August. Miss it.

My previous job consisted of working 8 months out of the year downtown and 4 months in Kenner so I lived in River Ridge which was a happy medium. It has lots of places to eat and all of your basic needs including a movie theater are right there. You can get to NOLA quickly through Earhart expressway to hangout at night.

Now my job will be 100% in Kenner.

I'm a doctor, single and 33 years old.

People tell me to move uptown, but I am worried the drive to Kenner and back will get tiring after a while.(right now I drive 45 minutes to work and it's horrible) I also really enjoy working on my cars, so a single garage would be nice.

I was looking around Metairie/Harahan/River Ridge/old Metarie and haven't seen anything new that catches my eye. Any advice? Price is not an issue, although I would not like to pay more than $2,000/month. Anything new with modern architecture around the Metairie area?

Should I just forget about the drive and live uptown for the social life? Leaving in the morning won't be bad, but coming back will be.

Thanks

I would go with Kenner. Traffic going in either direction can be a beast, regardless of the time of day. Plus Kenner has a lot of amenities imo. Maybe look into the Villas at Laketown... they are pretty nice. Very spacious and have garages. I liked that it us a small complex. Also maybe the Lakes of Chateau Estates or Pelican Bay Apts. There are also a few decent rental houses/townhouses in the area.

I suggest Old Metairie for the upper class lifestyle. Old Metairie has safe jogging, golfing, is located close to shops, restaurants, coffee, etc... Its safer than NOLA and has more new build options than uptown which you mentioned you like. Its also very close to the city and closer to your work.
