Hello. I am going to work from June to the end of Septmeber 2008 in Kenner. So I want to ask you is it a good decision? I have read a lot of bad statistics for New Orleans, like the crime is out of control and so on. Kenner is 13 miles from New Orleans. So what is the situation there? All kind of information will be helpful for me.
Thank you in advance.

Kenner (and Jefferson Parish in general) has more competent leadership, and is doing well with the recovery. So this is not a bad decision. Not knowing your apartment budget, they have some decent apartments north of the Esplanade Mall. There are also some decent apartments at the end of Earhart Expressway and Clearview.

You're better off finding a place in Metairie rather than Kenner. Kenner is more similar than its westbank Jefferson Parish counterparts and New Orleans itself with the crime and iffy areas. If you travel around the city of Kenner, you'll see some nice neighborhoods (mainly close to the lake), but just a couple of blocks away from older, iffy-looking apartment complexes and townhomes. If you must stay in Kenner and you're worried about the criminal element, stay closer to the lake, but it's expensive over there. Metairie's bigger (more options) and doesn't have the crime problems to the degree that Kenner, the Westbank (in some areas), and New Orleans has. A variety of apartments along the interstate.

As Ronald said, look into Metairie. It's nicer than Kenner.

Hello. Thank you for the answers. I've spoken with my employer, and he is providing housing somewhere south from the New Orleans International airport, around Airline highway and the 3rd street. So it is far away from the lake and I will really think about for housing in Metairie.

South of the airport (and Airline Highway) isn't the best place to live AT ALL. And, yes, Metairie is a good place to get an apartment, although if you're working in Kenner, there are places you can live in "Kenna" that aren't bad. There is also River Ridge and Harahan. I want to say the apartments at Earhart and Clearview I mentioned are in one of those two cities.

Don't live south of Airline. If you must live in Kenner live in the 70065 zip code north of I10. Don't live anywhere with the 70062 zip code. Both are Kenner zips.

And if you want to be picky, I wouldn't advise living between I-10 and Esplanade in Kenner either.
