We are about to put our house on the market and relocate to New Orleans. We need to know whether to obtain a mortgage here or wait until we get there.(Pre-Qualify) We are wondering about incentives for new orleans residents and insurance issues. Any input would be helpful.

Hi Dlunn back in 03' we looked into purchasing a home in Bywater and there were scads of incentives for teachers, but I don't know what would apply to you. The agent we contacted was very helpful and knew about what incentives would apply to our situation. Home insurance will be high. I suggest calling a local realty office and ask lots of questions. Here's a site that will help familarize you with the neighborhoods in the city: http://www.neworleansonline.com/tool...hborhoodguide/ Best wishes.

Local mortgage companies will also have information on special mortgage programs that out of state lenders will not. The programs change so often, that you need to talk to a lender before you start shopping for a home.

Cool resident West banker

I personally will eventually move out of Louisiana. My house (escrow homeowner's) insurance and taxes have risen more than $500.00 per month since Katrina. And it did not flood in my home. Fom $1321 to $1812 house payment. Ouch!! Having to be creative just to survive. The city of New Orleans sucks. I was raised there, I know about it than I can tell. -59% projected job growth. Do some some heavy Google and Yahoo searches.

Bye!

Algiers Federal City to begin construction within months...
New LSU Hospital downtown...
Plus new infastructure projects coming down the pike with the release of federal money...

America is starting to be knee deep in a recession...New Orleans stands to benefit the most with all the money floating around here plus whatever can be gotten out of the oil that passes through Louisiana.
