Stick with Memphis. I don't think out of town dealers would last very long down here.

There's a bar in the Bywater, Kajun's Pub, that is run by a trans lady, JoAnn (nee John) Guidos. It's just a "normal" bar but that might be a good place to start.

The port of New Orleans is the 6th largest port in the US, so I would think to look there first. I don't know about unions, but New Orleans is also now the "Hollywood of the South" so lots of industry related jobs too...

Thanks Polarvortex1415, that is very good information. I too had suggested to him that he look there and I didn't know about the film industry that's good to know. Is the port on the Mississippi or the Gulf? Are there any beaches close by? Where do people go just to be near the water? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The nearest beaches are Grand Isle in Louisiana, the Texas beaches, or Pass Christian in Mississippi. But in all places, even though the weather is nice and the water gets warm in summer...it is brown and murky, due to being near the MS River Delta. A few beaches in Texas have blue water, but they are far away. The best beaches in close proximity to New Orleans would be the Florida Panhandle beaches of Pensacola, Destin, Panama City, and Mexico Beach...those are like 4 hours or more away. A bit closer are the Orange Beach/Gulf Shores areas of Alabama, which are almost as nice as the Florida Panhandle beaches.

Mississippi's Ship Island, which is accessible by ferry, is nice if you want to be just surrounded by nature. The water is a beautiful teal color.

Thanks Hawaii4evr. The muddy water will take some getting used and Ship Island seems pretty interesting. The beaches are attractive but transportation to the island from New Orleans looks iffy. At any rate it maybe a promising alternative and more convenient than the Florida panhandle beaches.
