Hi, I'm jfre81.

I actually shot these last December shortly before Christmas, but only just now got around to it. Early New Years Day, go figure.

I live in Ohio now, but was living in the Houston area and came over with a buddy, staying in the French Quarter for a couple days. Limited time for both photos and enjoying good food and drink, but I'm the exploring type.

Let's go explore.

The second from the bottom made me hungry. I was trying to read the menu to see where it was, but I can't tell.

It's the Corner Oyster House, St. Peter @ Decatur Street. Food was fairly unremarkable IMHO, but the service was solid and I can appreciate that in any "tourist" spot like the Quarter where they're not relying on repeat customers to make a living. No looking up reviews, no going out of the way for it, it was more a function of "my buddy and I are walking out of a bar down the street, we're buzzed, we're hungry, and we're in New Orleans so we're definitely not going to Subway--hey this place will do!" sort of thing.

One thing about that town is eating out is cheap, even in the more upscale restaurants when compared to comparable establishments in other major cities. When it's cheap, I'll take the Pepsi Challenge on an unknown restaurant any day. I was in Washington, DC paying $10 for a burger and a Coke a few months earlier. It was a good burger, at least.

All in all it was a great time, kind of something different a few days before Christmas. I live considerably further away from NOLA than Houston now, but no doubt I should come through again. Maybe I can manage to stay a little longer, catch some more live music on Frenchmen Street, explore more of the city, shoot more photos.

Thanks everyone. Happy 2015.

There are some great restaurants in the quarter, but there are also alot of mediocre places that stay in business because people coming from out of town don't know any better. I used to be one of those people. Some of the best places are the little delis in the neighborhoods that tourists never go to. Nice pictures.

Thanks.

Yeah, I was pretty much one of those people. I enjoyed lunch at K-Paul's, probably earlier that same day, but all other dining was done outside the Quarter. One place on St. Charles (I think) we went to the next night was very good but I can't remember the name, and I didn't pull out the camera in there. I had to get on Google Maps to track down the name of the place who had the po-boy in the picture.

Well, at least they had good presentation. It sure looks good. Think I know what I'm having for lunch today.
