Hi. : ) What zip codes or areas do you recommend to purchase a fixer upper preferably < $200,000? I live in Houston & no longer want to stay with family or in a hotel while I'm there. A little info about myself: 39 y.o. , no kids, single, sociable, my family lives on the Westbank so I'm familiar with the Westbank more so than the other side of the river. I'm not interested in Metairie and Kenner ( too far from city). Thank You

Zip codes don't mean a whole lot here since they cross many different areas and neighborhoods.

For a stand alone house in that price range, you will have to look around the fringes of Hollygrove, Central City or out in the 7-9th Wards on the lake-side of Claiborne Ave., or out in Gentilly.

You should be able to find a small condo in some of the nicer, more walkable areas though i.e. along Magazine St., in the Marigny/Bywater or Mid-City.
