I think it started a few years ago. There are new condos and apartment buildings all over the city, especially the CBD and Warehouse District. It seems like there is an old building on every other block in that area being converted to condos. I keep hoping my rent will go down. No luck so far.

Rent has gone down or flatlined within the last month, there was an article about it on NOLA.com I think. The building boom does that, people can't afford $1000 to live in the 8th ward.

That's good to know, annie. I moved down here with the hope of buying something within a few years, but it seems like the prices have just skyrocketed since I've been here. Thankfully the guy I rent from is not greedy, and does not raise the rent every year. Looking at the prices in my neighborhood, he could certainly get more if he wanted to. I guess I shouldn't complain.

Certainly not. I've seen some nice places in some bad areas, asking crazy prices. It seems to be much more of a sellers market than a buyers market, unless you can find something in Gentilly or something.

New Orleans, especially the historic areas, will not build up (as in high rises),
there are height limitations on development projects in order to preserve a historic sense of place.

I always thought that would be a perfect place for a little entertainment district. Some bars and nice little sidewalk cafe's looking over the lake. I'm sure I'm not the first to think of that. You're probably right about the rich people. Looking at the houses over there, it's obvious there are some big money people that call the shots.

Honestly, I kind of like it like it is too. It's a nice quiet place to relax and watch the sailboats and pelicans. I don't go there often, but when I do, I always wonder why I don't spend more time there.

I think the same too. With the amount of tourists, the lake could easily have a casino resort like L'Auberge or small entertainment like you suggested. Especially if UNO were to ever significantly grow.

I do enjoy it like it is, it's quiet and pretty. Although I still feel it's underdeveloped and wastes it's potential.
