Hi everyone,

I'm planning to move to Nola in August to start a PhD program. I've never lived in the south and only visited Nola for one day to scope my new campus. I'll be bringing my little pup with me and wanted to live in an apartment complex my first year to soften the blow of culture shock. Does anyone have recommendations? I've noticed on this forums that the Preserve and the Crescent Club are in not so safe areas. Does anyone have thoughts on the Esplanade? They have a few availabilities. They are a bit expensive but it's worth the extra price if I know I'll feel safe and comfortable.

Thanks so much!!

The Esplanade Apts are in a nice area. Across the street from city park. I've never been inside, but they look nice from the outside. American Can apts are not far from there. I work with a guy who lives there, and he says they are nice. He has a big dog also. Went to a crawfish boil at the pool there, and it seems nice and safe.

Both the Esplanade and American Can Company are good suggestions, though I think the American Can building is quite expensive too. But both are in a great area. Just to clarify, The Preserve is not necessarily in a bad area, the other side of Carrollton along Tulane is worse, but The Esplanade is in a better area overall for a newcomer, just depends whether the price difference is worth it to you.
