Hello, thank u all for contributing here, i have gotten alot of really helpful information reading through threads, alit confirming what i was thinking.

Start by saying i love new orleans visited for three weeks after katerina staying in state park. I am on disability for ptsd and my dog and i travel the country and camp, pretty comfortable with all sorts of situations and i am skitty enough people usually leave us alone, can pull out the crazy lady card anytime and we are poor. So we are pretty invisable, no threat. That all said i am starting to wonder if hosting a small wedding, staying in air b and b, with relatives that are lovely people but look like and are white priviledge people is a good idea, the person at the resturant that my daughter booked asked if i had read the news, i brushed it off as the usual, but started googling parking areas, will have michigan plates, and came across this forum, crime maps, articles ect. Especially concerning to me is the current climate in our country, i have been concerned in places i never was before.

Your thread on here about the tourist beating was really well rounded, offering different perspectives, if i was a young criminal in our country right now i could very hate what my family looks like. The thread also mentions all i do but i doubt the rest of my family would know to do, i carry pepper spray, i get to where i am going by 6:00 at night, ect.

So my questions are: the specific area in title would that be a target for 25 people going in and out for four days? They will be taking taxis or uber, me and grooms parents parking with out of state plates. And i am outside i good bit because of my dog (which i heard a man was robbed and they took his dog!) will be tying her to me! Wedding is at lousis armstrong park at two, dinner on bourbon strert at 600, any and all thoughts, ideas appreciated.
Becky

Are you saying that the Airbnb is between Banks St, Canal St, Carrollton Ave, and Broad St?
You're going to want to be on the Carrollton side of Jefferson Davis closest to Canal Street. I don't have personal experience there but just use common street smarts and you should be fine. Out of state plates are very common and you will park next to some eventually.

Thank you for reply yes i was trying to say it is in the middle of those four streets. I think we are where u are saying would be good, east of jefferson davis, toward canal. Thats a releif my daughter is so excited to do it here, her and groom, set it all up, i wasnt worried, they are not the type of arrogant people that entice violence, but then the waiter brought that up and i started reading! Thank u

I would say that with 25 people you'd have safety in numbers. Are you all staying at the same AirBnB? If so you should be fine. Just have the toughest guys walk in front and back of the group when you go partying and don't leave anyone behind. Make sure doors are locked at night and security system on, if any.
Enjoy.

Thank u so much for the reply, yes all staying at same air b and b . Really good ideas. I have been reading and not blaming the victims, but there is plenty we can do to minimize opportunties for this kind of thing. Not be obnoxious tourists, act respectfully, dont be out at 2:00 am walking the streets, buying drugs, pulling out money, ect. And as a family we have alot going for us that increases our chances of survival! I was born in gary indiana, her dad bar tends and has lived in las vegas for thirty years, i remembered i have a letter that makes my dog a emotional support animal so renter of b and b has to let her stay, she heads off problems, (read comments on how some b and bs are renting in known bad neighborhoods, so the least they can do for taking our. money is let us have the dog!) ect and we are truely interested and like the people of new orleans. My challange now is to not let fear of some bad apples, affect my view of all the other great people there. Thank u, reassuring to hear from locals, one of my daughters friends lives there and will be with us too. If anyone has tips on routes in from i 10 and streets to avoid that would be awesome!

If you're from Gary, you'll be fine.

Its because OP is from Gary that she's asking questions. She know what a high crime area is about.

If she was from some small town in Vermont or something, she wouldn't have a clue.

I would think they opposite. I didn't ask about crime in Westside Chicago because I'm not from a small town in Vermont.

My neighbors went to Chicago for a Saints game a few years ago, don't need to ask anyone about Chicago have already formed a opinion.

New orleans looks and feels like paridise compared to gary at least it is green here. I lived on fourth st in st petersburg a few years ago, thats when i really decided i am better off to keep moving. My relatives and relatives to be, some are from a small town in vermont and that is what has me worried. I have been watching the crime map and going well that burglary is two blocks away, auto theft three blocks away, oh no fight on same block . I have packed my car in case it gets stolen, sad. I am encouraging my daughter to have people go to french quarter, lose half her money to b and b. This is just too stressful, worrying about relatives, hoping they wont wear jewelery, escorting them with the dog, having the tough ones front and back hehe no security system at b and b, parking is on the street. And with our country the way it is right now it is even harder to predict anything. French quarter has stuff too, but dont have to worry about moving into someones neighborhood and the resentment that can create. Thanks so much, has helped me to think this through
