Who has legal custody of the baby? It sounds as if this young mother and her child would be best off in foster care - in the same home.

Running away will not help anything and will be more likely to guarantee her the loss of her child.

Tough situation - hope a good solution can be found.

Louisiana age of majority of is 18. BUT, there likely are some exceptions for when a child becomes a mother.

The mother referred to in the OP needs to contact her state/city/county DSS to find out what is available to her. In many states, despite the age of majority, when a child becomes a parent, they are considered an adult. I don't know LA laws, they are the only state based on Napoleanic Code.

If she is in OCS custody, then who has custody of her baby? Also, why is she in OCS custody? Was she removed from the home because it was not a good environment for her, or was it because she has been acting out and is out of control, perhaps a danger to herself?

You asked how much trouble can she get in for running away. Well, the short answer is it depends. And it depends on a lot of things. If she is on probation, she can be arrested. She might also be charged with kidnapping if the child is not in her custody. Too many unknowns.
