All of New Orleans without power after Hurricane Ida leaves 'catastrophic transmission damage'.
The only power in the city is coming from generators, according to Homeland Security.

One fatality is already confirmed.

As I recall with Hurricane Andrew that hit south Florida in 1992, they didn’t realize the scope of the damage until 1 to 2 days after the storm had passed.

Says people "taking pictures" of the waves. They're actually taking selfies with the waves behind them. Yipes!

The roof was blown off a south Louisiana hospital with patients inside, in a visceral indication of how the storm has collided with an already strained health-care system.
It is not clear how many people were inside the hospital.

Video showed the roof suddenly pulling up and tearing into pieces in the storm.

Ida (now downgraded to cat. 1) is now located about 30 miles (50 km) east-southeast of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with maximum sustained winds of 95 miles per hour (155 km per hour).

A levee is in danger of collapsing, according to the National Weather Service, which has said more than 200 people are in danger in the Lafitte and Jean Lafitte area in Jefferson Parish.

“This is a particularly dangerous situation,” the weather service warns, urging people to seek higher ground immediately.

As Hurricane Ida barreled through Louisiana on Sunday, it dumped enough rain to exceed at least one levee southeast of New Orleans.

Around 5:30 p.m. Eastern time, the Plaquemines Parish said on Facebook that it had received reports of a levee that had “overtopped” in the Braithwaite area, southeast of New Orleans, and urged those in the sparsely populated area to evacuate.

“SEEK HIGHER GROUND IMMEDIATELY,” the parish said.
