I like Gulf Shores. I mean, it's a beach town, but it's not as touristy as Panama City is.

Anyway, I would also check out Ship Island but it takes a day to do so - a charter boat takes you out and drops you off there around 10 am and comes and picks you up around 5 pm or in the summer, later. It is SUPER COOL. There's a national park out there, and also the ruins of a prison, for history buffs. And it's so quiet and peaceful and ocean-y. But you can also check out the Jefferson Davis house and museum in Gulfport, MS. That shouldn't take all day and it's on your way between New Orleans and Mobile (been to both, NOLA many, many times - I was born there!).

Gulf Shores is very touristy. Orange Beach is less congested and quieter, which is a huge plus when being on the beach.

Thank you. I will have to try it out next time I am down that way. Is it pretty quiet most times of year?

It’s all relative. Compared to Panama City Beach and Destin, yes, it’s quieter. However, during the summer, it can get crowded.

I think Mobile is worth a stop specifically downtown and it's midtown historic districts and I hope you consider it. It's a beautiful city and a hidden gem and it flies under the radar imo.And as one of the oldest cities on the Gulf Coast it has a lot of history.

Any questions you may have we would be more than happy to answer them over in the Alabama forum. I think you would get more info regarding sites to see ,things to do and etc over there than you would here. Either way we hope you enjoy the Gulf South regardless of where you choose !!!!

USS Alabama Battleship (they have planes, copters etc. plus a sub too), super cool if you like that stuff.

Really liked Felix's Fish Camp about 2 miles east of the Battleship.
