Enjoy...the trip begins at my home Uptown, we head further Uptown into flooded areas, hit the Lakefront, swing back through parts of Gentilly, into the French Quarter, Downtown, the Warehouse District and back to my neighborhood Uptown. New Orleans is trying to come back and it is, but, of course, our work continues on bringing the Southern gem back!

Christmas decorations are just beginning to show up in my Uptown neighborhood...

St. Charles Ave. Uptown...

Here is a stop light still down at State St. and St. Charles Ave. The replacement of over 600 stoplight intersections is almost complete...

Further Uptown on Carrollton, heading towards flooded areas...

Area that had around 5 feet of floodwaters...

The next 8 photos are in areas that had 8 to 12 feet of floodwaters in the City of New Orleans:

Water was over 12 feet at this location for several blocks in Mid-City...I stopped at this little convenience store to pick up a couple of beers...

Bayou St. John around the Faubourg..

Getting Into City Park:

A damaged City Park Oak tree lives on....

Flooded home is now completed it's renovations...

But, this one looks like it will be another 2 to 3 months before it is ready to be inhabited...the ground work is just complete. (notice the home next door that still has floodwater lines)

Just starting to come back to life in Lakeview!

New Orleans Lakefront...

A gutted home...

thank-you for some WONDERFUL photos.
I am SO homesick right now.
I grew up in a neighborhood near the lake. Hadn't realized how much I miss it. Had considered moving out of the southeast entirely but now.....thanks again for some great photos

Glad you enjoyed the photos. Maybe you should consider coming back home...many, many locals are streaming back home, where they belong, every day. The City is doing wonderful and it is feeling more like the New Orleans we know, every day. My life is happier here, now, than it has ever been. I've lived in the City since I was born...BTW, we're all in this together, even if you can't come home. New Orleanians understand. We've all experienced the storm and we're all bouncing back together.

Default Thank You!!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, from a Lakefront girl, St. Frances Cabrini, St. Joseph Academy, UNO. Husband went to Ben Franklin (uptown) but went to college in Texas. We've been in Florida for 20 years, but N.O. will ALWAYS be home. We took a group of 30 youth from our church to work on houses in Lakeview this past summer and it changed their lives. They've learned how precious life is and to be thankful for things we take for granted.

I wish with every cell in my body that we could go back, but there is no work for my husband, which is why we left in the first place. We still go back several times a year, and took our kids out of school to attend the Jazz Fest this past year. What wonderful, sweet memories. Oh, how I miss the Big Easy!

Default homeward bound

Alon504,

I just may find a way to get back home. Your pictures really have helped in making a decision. I still have family and friends there in the area and, perhaps, I can draw on them to help me. The biggest thing I get is that there is such a storage of places to rent. It may mean sleeping one someone's living room floor for a couple of months or more but if that is what it takes......
I want to be a part of the rebuilding in some small way.
thanks again!!

I too enjoyed your photos, thanks for taking the time to post. I know the city is bouncing back as everytime I visit it looks a little bit better, BUT, what about that murder rate????? Six people killed over the past weekend alone. I think ya'll are up to like 176 murders for the year - which is unbelievable considering that that population is half of what it used to be.
