I finally moved into my apt uptown around Constance/Gen Taylor and my street scares the hell out of me.

I didn't see the place before I got here, I left it up to my roommate to find our place.

Is there a way to check out what's going on around the neighborhood online?
I googled it and a 17 yr old kid shot at two cops with a shotgun the 31st.

I'm a firm believer in the adage that keep to yourself and you'll be fine but I didn't move all the way down here to hate leaving my house.

I really want to talk to my landlord about this.

No point in talking to your landlord- it's not their fault- and they have no reason to let you out of your lease. Call the police and ask for the crime stats for your area if you really want the lowdown- otherwise talk to your room mate about replacing you. He/she can arrange that with the landlord.

My sister used to live on Constance near there. I didn't think it was that bad. Are there people hanging around outside a lot? What's so bad about it?

Of course someone got "jacked" right in my neighborhood last night as I am sitting in the backyard I hear a set of footsteps running and another following.

Only to hear someone screaming into their phone about how they just got mugged and lost $600

Carrying around that kind of money is plain out stupid in the first place.

I am going to try and get a sublet asap.

I want to move to the Marigny or the Bywater.
I don't know if it's the illusion of safety but I honestly don't feel like I've got to watch my back like I do around here.

Boy. Sounds as though your neighborhood is anything but boring.

We stayed at the Marigny when we visited last year and loved the area. I do remember reading that the Bywater area wasn't safe, either, but that was before Katrina.

"That's a lie, there are absolutely sketchy parts of the city for sure BUT, everything isn't a battle zone as some would lead you to believe.

I was in town apt hunting for the last week and I rode a bike around the quarter, the marigny, bywater, uptown and I'm still typing" Miserylovesco in June.

I hate to say it, but welcome to New Orleans. There are good "streets" and bad "streets" , it's hard to classify an entire neighborhood in NOLA.
