Hi all...I'm arriving in NOLA tonight for work (insurance). I'm wondering what the current situation is down there as far as power/gas/food etc. I'll be in an extended-stay hotel downtown that has power. Is gas readily available in the city? How about restaurants?

I'll be coming in on I-10 from Texas. Is traffic going to be an issue?

Thanks!

My husband is currently in the area. Has been since Friday. He has not had any problems getting around or getting gas. Just to be on the safe side, he has been getting gas sooner thatn he normally would to prevent getting too low and then becoming stuck.

He hasn't really run into traffic issues either. He was traveling into NOLA when the news stations were talking about the roads being backed up. He was traveling on a road that was supposed to be experiencing the bumper to bumper traffic. He was really concerned, but he never encountered the so called back ups.

Looking for places to rent, I have found some still do not have power, but many have had power restored.

If you're coming from Texas, I would take care to fill up and make sure you have all of your goodies before getting to Lafayette. Once you pass there, it's pretty much hit and miss for gas and services. You might have luck with gas outside of the major cities, say around Sorrento or LaPlace between BTR and NOLA.
Traffic shouldn't be an issue today. It will probably be hell tomorrow as a lot of places are going back to work in the morning and there is obviously a lot of commotion between BTR and NOLA.
It's an hour between LAF and BTR and another 80 minutes to NOLA so you can make it on a tank of gas from western Louisiana. If you get off the interstate anywhere around BTR, just be aware that many of the traffic lights are still out. SO watch the other drivers. Some don't stop.

Thanks for the info everyone. I just got in with no issues. To be on the safe side, I filled up in Lake Charles and got into NOLA with plenty of gas left.
