Try Frenchmen Street between Decatur St. and Royal St. Definitely a better chance of finding Latin music and fun, less touristy crowd than Bourbon. Locals don't usually recommend much if any of Bourbon Street. Tourists, frat/sorority and people visiting from metro NOLA hang out on Bourbon because they think that's where the best bars and clubs are. It's just not so. (Unless you prefer loud music, vomit and urine.) Though I have to say, SDT is pretty much on top of the mess so it's not as bad as it used to be.
