Hubby hears this today at the grocery store parking lot in Chalmette:

"So and So said that he thinks Grandma put a curse on him because after she banished him from the house he died three months later."

Where else in the US are you gonna hear this comment? I love my home.

Here ya go Jacq:

"Who's ya mamma? Are you Catholic? Can you make a Roux?" -- Title of a cookbook by Marcelle Bienvenu and questions one would use to identify someone from southern LA.

"Get off my stoop." -- a stoop is the steps leading up to the front door where people tend to sit and visit sometimes strangers or neighborhood kids will congregate on your stoop and you'll have to shoo them off, (a constant in the Quarter)

"Be nice or leave." -- A phrase used in Dr. Bob art and is found in many businesses and homes (mine is royal blue red and has bottle caps on the frame)

Don't eat the dead ones. -- used when eating crawfish; the ones in the sack who died before cooking aren't to be eaten you can tell because they aren't curled up (personally I've never known anyone who had problems after eating a dead one, but ya never know)

"Today's your birthday?"(pins dollar on girls shirt) - another NO thing. --self explainatory

Bet I know where you got those shoes....... -- a sucker bet for tourists used by con-artists in the Quarter looking for a few dollars; locals reply, "yeah, on my feet," grin and keep on walking.

And a new one -- A man and a woman passing each other on the street: He says, "Alwrite!" She answers, "Alwrite dawlin'."
