Hey all, going to NOLA over Thanksgiving break. Can you recommend a good place to stay? We like the most action possible; casinos, nightlife, etc. I see a Hilton is downtown by Bourbon street, but I don't know anything about it.

Thanks!

Check out nola.com go to interact and select the Mardi Gras boards. There are a lot of people there who frequently visit the city often and can tell you all about the hotels. Have a good visit !

Harrahs for casino- very nice rooms. I prefer to be in the Quarter, not on Canal Street.
I personally prefer the Royal Sonesta but seems like it's always booked. We often stay at the Bourbon Orleans, great location right off Bourbon but quiet. It's on the street that dead ends into the back of the Cathedral. It can be haunted- we had problems with that only once, when we stayed on the top floor. Kept hearing bouncing balls all night!!!

Go for one of the non-chain locations in the French Quarter. Like the Monteleone, Bienville House, or Louis XIV. They run about $100 per night and put you within walking distance to lots! New Orleans is a really walkable town though. I book through New Orleans Online - The City of New Orleans' Official Tourism Web Site. They guarantee the lowest rates on hotels.

The Monteleone is a fabulous old hotel, not a chain. It has a great location in the Quarter and the streets around it are safe for walking at night (w/the usual precautions). HAve fun!

I personally like the Marriot. But all the other suggestions are great as well. Be sure to check out Deanie's seafood restaurant.
