I love blanket statements. They're always completely true and apply 100% to all people and places in town. You seem to have it all figured out .

I'm a "Yankee" and I've felt quite welcome here!
New Orleans can be a party city only ... if that's what you make of it. Did you visit City Park? Art galleries? The zoo? Music in the Marigny? Et cetera?
I won't criticize you for your opinion; you're certainly entitled, but I do think you're generalizing. I've been teaching in Algiers for the last month and I have high hopes for this city. To make my own very broad generalization: the kids here don't take their education for granted the way they did in NY. I also haven't encountered any more ignorance than I did in NY. In fact, I think there was far more racism in NY, which was quite surprising. (Admittedly, I lived on Long Island, so that might be a factor). I do love NY, but I love New Orleans, too. Good and bad everywhere, ya' know ... and definitely a LOT of drunks on Long Island!

Let's see, you only noticed the negative side of the city, you write one of the most negative posts ever and yet some how you couldn't make a go of it in NOLA. Imagine that.

I went down there a year ago, made good money, met some really cool people, made excellent contacts and have been daydreaming about moving down there ever since. Then again I can do this in most cities.

Your post speaks volumes of who you are. You expect everyone else to make you happy and fit in, it ain't gonna happen.
