Hey, y'all. ;>)

I am a NOLA native, born and raised, but have been living in FL for the past 4 1/2 years. I recently visited home for the first time and am SO homesick it made me cry! I am moving back after the holidays, in early '09, and am interested in hearing more about the hospital situation.

I am an RN and work in the NICU; I worked at both University hospital and Tulane hospital (before they moved their NICU), and would LOVE to hear from anyone who is currently nursing or knows nurses who may have some info for me.

Anyone got the scoop on NICU's in the area? Stepdown nurseries? Level II or III? Whatever you call it, I want to know about it. Which hospitals have neonatal intensive care nurseries, and have you heard anything you can share?

I am particularly interested in Ochsner-owned hospitals (I heard they bought Meadowcrest?), Children's Hospital, and Touro, but lay it on me if you've got info on any others.

How hard is it to get a sign-on bonus lately? How are the salaries looking for experienced nurses? Any other good incentives (loan payback, etc.) I should keep in mind?

THANK YOU!!! I'm so SO excited! It seems like all of my closest friends have moved away in the last few years, and it's bizarre moving back with no network in place, but my heart aches for the city and and this move is definitely happening. Any help is tremendously appreciated!

I KNOW everyone there either is a nurse or knows a nurse, so bring it on, PLEASE.

Thanks!!

YOu should look at East Jeff Gen. They stayed open during Katrina and are in great shape today. Can't answer any other of your questions, sorry!

Default Per Diem Nursing Job to test the waters?

Advantage Nursing is a great per diem and travel nursing staffing company based out of New Orleans. Might be a good resource if you want to test the waters at a few locations before settling down:

Nursing Jobs – Nurse Staffing Agency – Advantage Nursing Services

Good luck with the move!!
