Hi, I am looking for an apartment in the New Orleans area and am considering some places in Kenner, Metairie, and River Ridge. I am not from around this area so I was looking for opinions for some of the apartments they have around. I am looking for something that is in a safe area and is reasonably priced. Thanks in advance for the opinions.

Personally, I'd live in the city.
The suburbs are boring and you'll just spend your time commuting back and forth.

Look uptown near the zoo and the colleges, we moved up here from the Irish Channel and it's AWESOME.

Kristin, there are a lot of apartments in the 70123 zip code (New Orleans/River Ridge/Harahan) with "Creeks" in the name, that are all run by First Lake. I lived at Sawmill Creek from 2000-2002, and thought it was very nice and well managed. That might be one to check out (it was a safe area at the time, but I have no idea whether or not it has changed since then). The reason that I moved out was that in 2002 I was paying $760/mo for a 2-bedroom apartment, and at that time I was able to buy a house for not much more. If I hadn't bought a house, I would probably still be there. Rents have gone up by now, like everything in our post-Katrina world down here.

I have a friend who lives in one of their newer apartments called Palmetto Creek, and she loves it. I think those are more expensive, though. It is within walking distance of Elmwood Shopping Center and a reasonably safe area.
