I am looking for a nice restaurant in New Orleans to celebrate a 30th birthday! Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Price range? Want quiet or bustling?

No more than 50-75.00 a plate and something quiet.

Depending on how may people some places like Arnaud's have back rooms that are much quieter than the main part.

What about Restaurant August? Anyone been there and can tell me if you would recommend or not?

Commanders looks nice! I also like that dress is upscale. Thanks for that recommendation!

I went to August on a recent trip and highly recommend it. I also like Stella very much but would choose August again. We had the 5 course tasting and wine pairing and everything was amazing - courses were much larger than we expected and we were absolutely stuffed at the end, can't wait to do it again! BTW – on their website, the 5 course tasting example is not current, only the kobe short ribs were offered in our tasting along with shrimp carpaccio, yard egg ravioli with brown butter and some other dishes I don’t exactly remember but there wasn’t anything that was not good, I’m sure it’s changed again. We also had lunch at Commanders and would recommend it as well since they offer 25 cent martinis (only for lunch, 4pp limit) – the place has a more festive feel to it, probably because everyone is tipsy.

Service/food/atmosphere at all three places is top notch but so far August is what I consider the best bet food wise and experience wise. Also take a look at Bayona and Herbsaint, I haven’t been yet but hear a lot of good things – they’re on our list for the next trip.

If you’re looking for information specific to New Orleans restaurants - the best forum I’ve found is Chowhound New Orleans.

My husband ate at Antoine's a loooooong time ago and loved it. It's spendy, so I would check out their website for price-ranges.

Two others 've heard very good things about are Upperline and Bayona's. Both have websites.

However, Commander's Palace is in that lovely Garden District, which adds to it's reputable quality.

Hmmm...looks like I will have to do both Commanders and Restaurant August in this trip. Thanks so much everyone!
