I am going to NOLA, I have been there many times. But parking my car is getting expensive with the Hotel. What are if any tips can anyone give to park my car? Would taking my car to the garden district and then catching the trolley to Canal st. be a good bet. Or is there something hidden closer? Like Harrah’s or some other hotel that does not check parking passes. Thanks for any help.

If you park it on any street and leave it, soneone will notice and break in/steal it.

All the downtown private parking lots will cost you some money, but it is usually much safer than parking on the street. We have lots of car burglaries here, so park at your own risk.

Default Park in a garage

I have a company vehicle, and our insurance company has asked me, when visiting downtown, not to park on the street. Apparently NOLA has a high car theft rate (according to insurance data, but don't know where they got it). Our company's policy is that it's easier to pay for parking that to deal with a stolen car.
But, to New Orleans' credit, I've never had a problem with my personal car here...but insurance is very high, so there must be some theft close by...

Guess I'm the lucky guy. Lived in New Orleans all of my 49 years, park downtown fairly frequently and always on the street whenever possible, and never had a stolen car or even a break-in.

But then, I just live here. Maybe you better ask someone from out of state to get a better idea of what to expect.

I prefer garages over open lots but I'd do either before the street. I have parked on the street in the Quarter before for short excursions and not when something major was going on. So it was never bothered with. But I don't trust street parking in NOLA so much as to leave my car all day or over multiple days.

ANother poster just mentioned parking at Harrah's and gambling for 1/2 hr on a card, which made the aprking free. He thought it was a good deal. I don't have personal knowledge of the truth of this.

darylwi makes a good point...all bets are off concerning on-street parking if there's a major event in town. But then, when there is (like the recent Sugar Bowl) they usually cover up the meters and make all on-street parking in the area off limits for the duration of the "special event" anyway.

If it is not too late you can park under the I-10 and take a street car to canal.

Pay for parking and peace of mind. Your hotel may not have the cheapest parking, so shop around. Parking on the street involves circling blocks until you can find space, feeding meters, etc. Good for short term only, if you're lucky enough to find a spot.
