I am currently finishing my Masters of Ed in Chicago and doing my student teaching in a 7th grade science class at a Chicago Public School. My husband and I are planning to relocate to New Orleans this spring. I will be an incoming, certified, first year teacher (my bachelors is in anthropology).

I would greatly appreciate any tips/info on job search, opinions on charter schools and the recovery school district, worthwhile teacher forums and the like. I am not interested in teaching/living in the suburbs, nor any suggestions to look elsewhere in the country for work.

Thank you in advance!

I am a foreign language major ( French and Spanish) at Jackson State University and I am moving to NOLA to attend graduate school at UNO. I have also thought about teaching in the area. I've found these sites to be helpful: teachnola.org teachlouisana.net and louisianaschools.net. I hope this will help.

We need more teachers living in Gentilly.

That sounds kind of goofy, probably...but before Katrina Gentilly was one of THE neighborhoods of choice for teachers, policemen, firemen...anyone working a job in a city neighborhood that entails long hours for not as much money as I think we all agree should be the case. Comparitively low living expenses and the ability to get from Gentilly to most other parts of town fairly easily make it worth looking into.
