I am moving to New Orleans next year and I have a few questions about housing. I will be attending grad school at UNO, so I'm trying to stay close by. I'm interested in the Gentilly and Marigny areas
1.) What is the average rent for a 3bd/2ba home?
2.) Are there any apartment complexes in those areas?
3.) How are the schools in those areas?
4.) Are these areas pretty safe?
I plan to move next year around June. When will be the best time to start looking for housing and enrolling my children into school?

Are you limited to public schools, or is private an option? If you are open to commuting to the Marigny area, then you could also consider Lakeview. You mentioned children, and I think you will find Lakeview to be a safer, family oriented neighborhood. St. Dominic is a Catholic school in Lakeview with a good reputation.
