For a LSUHSC student, good apartment not too expensive, but willing to go higher for safety.

Behind locked doors.

Don't ever leave your doors unlocked no matter where you live in NOLA! That goes for your car doors, too.

Beyond that, a neighborhood that isn't rundown is going to be your best bet.

You shouldn't leave your doors unlocked anywhere you live. NOLA is not different.

Umm, yeah it is. I lived for 5 yrs in a small town in Miss and frequently forgot to lock my front door. I now live where neighbors leave their front doors open in nice weather and I only locck up at night. These are things I NEVER did in N.O./Metairie.

Hmm I have a friend on Webster who never locks her doors, or her car.

And she's lived there her whole life.

I beg to differ. When we lived in River Ridge, not only did we lock our doors, we set our alarm when we were in the house! Now we live near Boulder,CO and sometimes we forget to close our garage! The door is unlocked. I don't think we have ever set our alarm.

Yeah, when I was in Metairie, I set te alarm to take the garbage can out at night b/c neighbors had been ambushed that way. I was ever vigilant when I lived there.

Whenever my neighbor left her door unlocked, not too long after, a guy was walking through her apartment, looking around at everything she owned, and asking her for water (water? yeah right! ...more like all of her valuables ).

Thankfully, we live in a divided house and nothing happened, but man, that was creepy!
