I live on the Northshore right now but I'm feeling the pull to move into the city more and more everyday. Right now I'm starting some early apartment hunting in the Uptown/Garden District area.

I'm finishing school and taking a break before I start applying for grad schools, so I really just want to wait tables and enjoy life in the city.

So what are my prospects in the city? I keep hearing that the "slow season" is coming up but how hard will it be to find a job? I only have alittle bit of serving experience but I work hard and I'm sure my bosses will speak well of me. People have been recommending that I check out the hotels in the business district and some told me about there being good money as a "banquet server" in the casinos. Has anyone done this type of work and can tell me about it?

For anyone who has waited tables in the city, how much can I expect to make in tips? I'm having a hard time apartment hunting because I'm not sure what my budget is.

Also, if anyone has any recommendations for good places to work or bad places to avoid, that would be great! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

We were in the FQ over the holiday weekend. We stayed at the Inn on Bourbon, who said they were short handed in housekeeping. Margaritaville also was hiring. We saw several help wanted signs in windows.
