Lived a progressive, liberal, tolerant lifestyle in SF for many years and now relocating to NO. I want to live in a safe but funky/bohemian neighborhood and not feel threatened (being a single female). I'm a professional woman, mid-40s. Any ideas?

You'll feel right at home. Try the Bywater or Marigny for bohemian style neighborhoods.

Mid-City, such as the Carrollton area, would also work. The areas around Bayou St. John are nice, established, and definitely "Bohemian"... to their own extent.

Well, I dont live there - yet- but spent a LOT of time in Marigny around Frenchmen St, and that would be my pick. Close to some really great local-frequented bars and cafes, and if you have a bike, very handy to the F.Q. You could walk there too, but maybe not real late at night. Lucky you, living in two of the best places on the planet!

Yeah you right Puddinhead! A lot of ppl in oz think the same about NYC, that you don't need to 'fit in', and it's a place where the more 'eccentric' members of society feel at home. Much as I enjoyed NYC, I don't think it's a patch on NOLA for being a place where a person for whom all molds are broken can feel riiiight at home.

I've only visited New Orleans, but NOLA reminds me of San Francisco more than any other city I've been to.
