In a couple weeks I'll be moving to the Uptown area and am looking for a place to exercise. I'm a baller on a budget, and I will certainly take advantage of Audubon Park when it's not as hot outside, but for the summer months I'd like to find an inexpensive place to lift weights and use a treadmill. Ideally I'd like to be able to walk there as well, so to give you a frame of reference, I'm pretty close to Whole Foods.

By the way, I'm not some wimp who can't handle the heat, literally speaking. I've lived in S. Louisiana before, and I love the weather. I just don't enjoy running in 100+ degree weather.

You might also try the French Riviera gym--it has several locations (all are available to a member), they usually will negotiate on a price, and you can do it from month to month (no membership fees). The equipment and facilities are a bit dated but generally maintained or repaired. You can get much nicer than French Riviera (the Elmwood Fitness chain is very nice but you pay for it), but it's a good deal with flexible hours.

Stay away from the Downtown Fitness Center in the Canal Place Mall; it's a total rip-off.

Ooo thanks! I was considering the Downtown Fitness Center. I will check out the French Riviera. I don't mind dated one bit.
