My husband and I will be taking our 4 year old to New orleans for a short trip to the aquarium and the zoo. Usually, we would not consider Nola in August, but there is a dinosaur exhibit at the zoo that will be ending soon, and this is of utmost importance to a 4 year old boy! Anyway, we would like to stay in a hotel with a great view of the river. Ships and tugboats are pretty good stuff for said 4 year old as well. Does anyone have any recs for hotels?

The Riverside Hilton, I know for sure and I would assume that the Westin at 1 Canal Place would too. The Sheraton and Marriott hotels on Canal St should, but the views may be obstructed. The Harrahs may, but I'm not sure.

Just be sure to call the hotel for a reservation and specify that the room has to have a river view. You can't get that w/the online services.

I've stayed at both the Marriot and the Sheraton. I had an excellent view of the river at both hotels. I personally liked the Marriot because I could see the river, and parts of downtown also. I was also facing Canal St. so I was able to watch the impromptu parades and wedding marches that came down the street. The higher up you stay, the better the view. I was on the 23rd floor at the Marriot and the 36th floor at the Sheraton.

The Hilton Riverside has the BEST view of the river. Make sure you tell them that you want your window to face the river.

The Westin New Orleans Canal Place is a great hotel with a wonderful view of the river and as an extra you can see the french quarter as well. It is less than a block away from the aquarium and the bug museum also if you were interested in those as well as the zoo. I stayed their recently and the staff is wonderful as well. You should try it out, you will like it!
