i always want to move to n'awlins and have considered it many times over the years. in fact, i had a truck rented to move a week after Katrina hit (got the deposit back on the truck but lost money on the apartment), and now as i troll the various rental ads, i notice that the prices of a 1bdrm has jumped almost 200%. its madness. i live in washington dc and the rents i am seeing for new orleans are comparable to here. what is GOING ON?

It's the law of supply & demand. So many houses & apts were damaged & those people need a place to live until their homes are rebuilt so they need to rent. Therefore, rent has gone way up.

Isn't that sad!! It's so typical for people to rip people off during hardships. Those people that live there, that's the last thing they need is to pay more for everything! I mean they lost everything for goodness sakes. It's like lets make it harder! Geez..
