I appreciate you clarifying that. (Unike other people who prefer to name call and call people fools.)

Katrina impacted everyone who lived in NOLA at the time. Everyone lost something or some one when the levies failed. I was in NO a couple of years ago. People were struggling but they had a quiet, determined spirit despite all the misery that was heaped upon a city at one horrific time.

LA is a different breed of cat. It is not just one more state with one more meta city like Florida, Texas, Illinois and California. It is definotely nothing like Chicago. You have an opportunity to live a wonderful historical, cultural and educational experience that is worth every penny and every ounce of your energy. It may happen that you will not get a second bite at the apple, so take it while you can.

On the upside, if you don't like it after the first year, you can transfer into Miami. NO is the only city in the world where a young man with gold earrings, a gold tooth and a backpack looked at me and said "Welcome home" and grinned in this great big smile. Be sure to bring your car. There is too much to see and do to not have wheels. One way or the other, you will not forget the City. Fair warning, fancy cars are just as much a target in LA as in Chicago or Los Angeles. .

I'm not sorry, if anything you should apologize for finding fault with people who have, in many cases, had their entire lives destroyed. I don't know what circle you come from, but I was pretty sure that we had established the fact that Katrina was one of the worst natural disasters in history, and without a doubt affected everyone in south Louisiana.

I'm not sure where the line is drawn...but there are still people and every other word that comes out of their mouth is Katrina, whereas *most* others while having suffered great losses don't want to go on about it all the time. Everyone is different.
