The route will take you from the western side of the metro all the way through the easternmost suburbs. With that being said, traffic shouldn't be too bad unless it's rush hour.

if you'll be driving in the afternoon, it might be worth the detour to take the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway bridge over to I-12. it will be a little longer but not much traffic, and there's no toll when you go in that direction

FYI taking the Causeway bridge adds an additional 20 miles to your trip and is hardly worth it IMO.

The I-10 bridge over the Industrial Canal does have some traffic (inbound in the mornings and outbound in the evenings), but not nearly enough to drive all the way around the lake.

Between the two cities traffic is nearly non-existant.

If you are on a "business cycle" you should be golden. If you are headed to Biloxi
when everyone else is trying to jam into NO, and coming BACK from Biloxi when everyone
is trying to go HOME, you should do fine. Since you are flying in, though, you will be out
west initially and will be facing Metairie traffic going out to Biloxi, so you have the double whammy.
If you arrive in NO after say 8:00-8:30, and drive out in I assume a rental car, you ought to be fine
going out.

Traffic in NO post Katrina was, and to an extent still is, a bit fierce. It was never GOOD to begin
with. You will be driving over the new "Twin Spans" though, the bridges to Slidell that washed out
during the storm in 05. They look SWEEEEeet now. Saw em for the first time earlier this year..wow.

My husband and I will be relocating from Boston to New Orleans. I was wondering, how bad is the traffic in New Orleans because traffic in Boston is a nightmare. Currently I spend about 1.5 hours on the road each way to get to and from my job. We are wanting to live in Algiers Point. My husband's job would be in Baton Rouge. Would this be a ridiculous commute?

Insane! Not to mention the cost of gas and wear&tear on the car. Live in Baton Rouge; there are many areas quite nice.
